At the LRT we’re committed to providing a working support network for all oncology patients aged 0-18yrs and their families. This commitment is spear headed by the LRT’s flagship support project ABIHILL The LRT is busy establishing and maintaining links with other childrens’ cancer charities around the world with an aim to improve our knowledge of the disease and its impact on the every day life of the child and their immediate family regardless of nationality or social class.
As many of us at the trust have children fighting this battle or they are professionals in the field of children’s oncology our working knowledge is based on first hand experiences. This enables the LRT to offer practical, emotional, effective support. Many families take great comfort just knowing that they are not alone, and that they share the same difficulties and emotions as many other families.
When a family first set out on this journey information and support are two of the most important things they need, but they also need hope. The LRT offers to provide all three.
The LRT has put together a comprehensive link section covering the sites we think are useful, it includes a press release category so you can keep abreast of the latest developments in the children’s brain tumour and childhood cancer news, from awareness campaigns to new treatment developments. There is also an international Links category which acts as part of the LRT’s working support network .
Daily support is provided through social media site Facebook , click the link to join us. Another great place to get support from is the Poppy Fields Special Mum’s & Dad’s group, its a very special group for parents of children with serious illnesses – somewhere they can meet & chat online, share their stories and support each other, it is run by LRT trustee Sarah Hill and close friend Lisa Guilder proud mum of Poppy Guilder.Liberty Rose has a facebook support group with over 18,000 members worldwide, the group which was set up by Liberty’s mum Dawn now offers an umbrella of support for other parents and children sharing the same journey.
All these children deserved to be championed, their stories deserve to be heard, surely it’s our responsibility to help where we can especially if our simple actions can make a difference to the life of a child, the purest & most special thing on the planet we will ever treasure. To make a difference to just One Child’s life would mean all this would have been worth it!
Please join our support network, let us stand together and make a difference.
We hope the information provided by the LRT website will be helpful and supportive to those families affected by childhood cancer.
