About Us

The Liberty Rose Trust was formed in February 2009, inspired by the strength and courage displayed by so many brave children  (young people) fighting Brain Tumours and other forms of childhood cancer.

The concept for the organisation was born a month earlier far away in Doha Qatar when Carl Finn (father of Liberty Rose) was invited out there by his old friend Danny Rookyard. Danny had read Liberty’s story on Facebook and wanted to help the family in any way he could. So on the strength of this  Carl and Dawn set about making plans to set up a registered charity in the U.K with an aim to providing much needed support for other families in the same situation as their’s.

Based on the combined first hand experiences of  parents & children’s oncology professionals  it became obvious something was vitally missing and that there is a desperate need to provide greater support to  families affected by childhood brain tumours and other forms of childhood cancer.

This is the reason for the LRT’s leading support project ABIHILL which aims to breach the gap that opens up between families affected by childhood cancer and the normal world they once knew. This flagship project is being managed by LRT Trustee/Director of family support Sarah Hill. Its mandate offers to provide practical and emotional support at every key stage of the journey, right from diagnoses, through treatment to when a family sometimes needs you the most when the treatment stops and the safety net of the hospital is removed. ABIHILLwill be there every step of the way!

Another fundamental pillar of the LRT is its commitment to raising awareness, not just about childhood brain tumours but about childhood cancer in general. The LRT are involved in the 2010 be childhood cancer awareness campaign and are committed to making the vision of an amazing lady called Diane Watt become a reality, we hope you will give this campaign your full support because together we really can make a difference Through raising the public awareness it is also hoped that Children’s brain tumour research would receive extra assistance. Brain tumours are now the leading cause of death in childhood cancer yet it currently only receives 1% of the research budget. The LRT has plans for several national, international and social media campaigns to be run over the next 3 years as part of it’s long term strategy to impact the dramatically low levels of funding going into children’s brain tumour research.
